Doctrines

he Hindus believe in the law of reincarnation. They understand that the life on earth is part of an eternal cycle of births, deaths and rebirths.

Every person is reborn or reincarnated every time they die, but if they lead a life that is good, they can be liberated form this cycle.

Lead a peaceful life, study the texts of the Hindus, be a vegetarian, pray and meditate, are the characteristics that Hindus use as an objective to identify themselves with Brahma or God.

To Hindus it is fundamental to strictly follow the teachings of the dharma, the group of religious rules specified for each individual in each segment of their life.

Because of the belief in reincarnation and in the certainty that all living creatures are part of the same spirit, they believe that animals and humans beings should be treated with equal respect.

The correct following of the dharma may lead to the practiced to mukti, liberation.

Sacred Writings:

There are many sacred writings by the Hindus that are considered infallible truths, according to the book revealed by Brahma: THE VEDAS, THE BRAHMANIC, THE UPANISHADS, THE PURANAS, THE BHAGAVAD-GITA (SUBLIME SONGS), THE RIG-VEDA (RELIGIOUS PSALMS AND VERSES).

Doctrines and Beliefs:

Hinduism believes in the existence of a universal spirit, a Great Soul (Atman) whose name is Brahma.

Karma – Sansara, reincarnation of souls. In Mukti, man’s freedom from the cycle of reincarnation.

Meditation, Prayer and Pilgrimage.

The animals are considered sacred because they abide in the divinity of Brahma. Krishna is retracted as a cowboy.

The cow is considered the mother of the earth and the symbol of fertility of the soil, and is sacred in Hinduism. The act of feeding the cow is seen a kind of veneration.

Main Gods and Goddesses:

Rama, Vishnu, Shiva and Durga.

However, the most worshipped, with the most amounts of temples are:

Rama: the incarnation on Vishnu as the perfect king, and perfect example as a follower of the dharma, religion.

Vishnu (the same as Krishna), Shiva, the Goddess Durga, the eternal Mother, the fist female of material nature.


Vedic Gods:

Surya – God of the sun.

Agni – God of fire.

Indra – God of the sky, warrior.
Indra is the God of the sky and of rain. He is the leader of the other Gods, that are sometimes are referred to as semi gods or administers of universal matters.


Vayu – God of the air and the wind.

Varuna – God of the sky and the water.

The Hindus burn their dead, they do not bury them.
The public service is conducted by the Brahmanic priest.


Avatars of Vishnu:

When the world is threatened by evil, Vishnu comes to protect it in one of its avatars or reincarnation. In Hindu myths, there are ten avatars that stand out as more powerful to do good:

Mastya: Fish avatar. Saved the first man Manu Gilgamesh and Noah in the great flood.

Kurma: Turtle avatar. Helped create the world supporting the great hill.

Varaha: Wild boar avatar. Third animal reincarnation.
Narasimha: Half man, half lion. Fights evil demons.

Vamana: Dwarf avatar. Also fights demons.

Parashurama: Known as Ramah. With his ax he defeated all the other classes of warriors.

Buddha: Founder of Buddhism. He is the ninth avatar.

Krishna: A very popular avatar. He is a valiant soldier and ruler.

Kalki: Last avatar. Has not appeared on earth yet. He is a warrior mounted on a white horse who will come destroy all evil.

Ramah: Prince. Seventh of the most popular reincarnations.

Other Gods and Goddesses:

Devi – meaning “The Goddess”. Hindus call their wife’s “Devi”.

Kalli – Killer of demons. Is seen in cremation areas, and also revered as the liberator of reincarnation.

Parvati – ideal partner for the God Siva.

Lakshmi – Goddess of riches and wife of Vishnu.

Durga – pictured carrying weapons, and protector of good.
Symbolizes fertility.

Sarasvati – Goddess of arts, wife of the God Brahma (arts, science and wisdom).

Ganesha – God with the head of an elephant. Son of Siva and Parvati. The people seek him asking for him to eliminate obstacles in new commitments, such as moving houses, marriages, and exams.

Yama – God of death.

Hanuman – Monkey God known for his bravery, power and devotion to Ramah.

Kartikeya – Son of Siva. He is the God of war.
